Students from Grades 8-10 are now eligible to apply for New Zealand High School Scholarships to study in schools in New Zealand.

The New Zealand High School Scholarship (NZSS) for Vietnamese high school students is now open to students currently in Grades 8-10.

Nguyen Sieu has set up a committee to support students to help with applications.

Scholarships Available

The New Zealand Government will provide two types of High School Scholarships for Vietnamese students:

He Tohu Hiranga (Excellence Scholarship)

  • Scholarship covers 50% of tuition for the first school year - 25 scholarships available 
  • 100% scholarship for the first year of tuition will be awarded to 1 outstanding student

He Tohu Awhero (Ambition Scholarship)

  • Scholarship covers 30% of tuition for the first school year - 11 scholarships available

Scholarship Criteria

Students of Vietnamese nationality who are currently enrolled in high schools across Vietnam, in Grades 8-10, meet the following conditions, are eligible to apply for the above scholarships:

He Tohu Hiranga Scholarship

  • Academic achievement: GPA 8.5
  • English: IELTS 6.0 (or TOEFL iBT 70, or PTE 50); OR English for Cambridge students: IGCSE program - English course as Second Language reaches a minimum of B; OR FCE points (Cambridge First Certificate in English) on 169

He Tohu Awhero Scholarship

  • Academic achievement: GPA 8.0
  • English: IELTS 5.5 (or TOEFL iBT 54, or PTE 42); OR English for Cambridge students: IGCSE program - English as Second Language reaches a minimum of  C; OR FCE score (Cambridge First Certificate in English) over 160

Application

Students are to apply for the respective scholarships on the ENZ online site. Students should prepare all necessary information (personal profile, academic results, English results and certificates, a 1.5-minute video on the topic “Why I deserve to be selected for the NZSS scholarships”, and a list of the top 3 choices of New Zealand schools.

Scholarships will be awarded to students with an outstanding academic record, and have articulated their aspirations well.

The tentative official enrolment date for the 36 NZSS scholarship holders is 22 July 2019 (start of Term 3 of the NZ academic year). However, students with sufficient reasons may submit their request to defer enrolment till January-February 2020.

New Zealand Education Exhibition (NZ Education Fairs) and the opportunity to discuss directly with schools offering NZSS scholarships: March 23 in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City and March 24 in Hanoi

Announcement of NZSS scholarship results: mid-May 2019

Scholarship recipients will be expected to commence study in New Zealand in Term 3 (July 22, 2019)
